Firemen Appreciation Event
Dick Moore, Past Exalted Ruler of Fullerton Elks Lodge No. 1993,
and Elk members, in appreciation of our Fireman and the 9/11 event, delivered 60 dinners
to Firemen in honor of the heroic bravery and dedication displayed by our brethren.
Members of the lodge delivered freshly cooked meals to 12 fire stations located
in Fullerton, Placentia and Brea. Meals were assembled at the Fullerton Lodge
and delivered by two-dozen Elks and their families and friends. The dinners
consisted of Roasted Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Green Beans, Cranberry
sauce, Bread loaves and twelve delicious apple pies generously donated by
Polly’s Pies Corp.
The Fullerton Elks inaugurated this practice in 2009 with the purpose of
recognizing our fire fighters who protect and stand ready to keep us safe.
"It is uplifting for all who meet with our fireman and their genial nature and
coveted fitness. Our firemen are stalwart citizens committed to the safety of
our communities", says Dick.
On September 11, 2009 Elks member Mike Mathers, a Placentia resident,
inaugurated this program of bringing dinners to the fireman on duty and, because
of the uplifting spirit of the firemen, the Lodge intends to continue
bringing dinner to the firemen on each 9/11 day as a tradition in the coming
years.
