This figure comes from Brian Riedl, Tax Policy Expert at The Heritage
Foundation, published in the Orange County Register,
Opinion Page, on 4/15/2011. Perhaps you saw the article.
Since it gave such hard figures, I decided to fire up Excel and see
what it looked like on a pie chart. The result follows.
As you can see, only 57% of the budget comes from our taxes. 43% comes
from new debt. Clearly, the government is not living
within its means. So, what would you do? Please
respond with responsible answers - this is no joke - up to 1000 characters.
Send your responses to me and
I will put together a response list, which everyone may view. I may even
send it to CONGRESS!!! (See below.)
For example, here´s my recommendation:
It´s obvious we can´t fix the budget in one year. But over an approximately 4-year period, if we cut 10% across the board (no exceptions) per year, we could cut approximately 40% from today´s budget. With the No Exceptions stipulation, we let all receivers of money share the pain. For the really, really destitute, remove the cuts. Repeal ObamaCare, but put all of Congress on Medicare and Social Security - eliminating their gold- plated plans for health and retirement. Coupled with this reduction in money, we loudly proclaim the new battle cry of the republic, Practice Self Reliance. Congress should use their bully bulpit to start re-educating the general public. Welfare at all levels should NOT be a way of life. Wealth redistribution is NOT the American Way. A smaller government is, for MOST people, a benefit.
OK, so now it´s your turn. Please respond by filling out your suggestion for reducing the budget, and ultimately the national debt. If you don´t do it, who´s going to do it?
Thanks,
Rudy
